I am reading a book by Paul Barach about his journey in Japan visitiing buddhist temples on the Shikoku Pilgrimage trail. It is an interesting book written with wry humor. The tip off to his sense of humor starts in the preface wherein he has two quotes, one by Robert Falcon Scott which goes like this:
"Every day some new fact comes to light - some new obstacle which threatens the gravest obstruction. I suppose this is the reason which makes the game so well worth playing"
Beneath that is written (Died exploring the South Pole)
then, beneath this is a quote by Roald Amundsen which goes as follows:
"Adventure is the result of poor planning"
Beneath which is written (Did not die exploring the South Pole)
